To say that if the, "Watchtower Society would cease to exist, then this forum would lose its right to exist," would be kinda like saying when World War 2 ended that there was no need for the Holocaust survivors to be supported. (Maybe a bit of an extreme of an analogy, but it makes the point just the same.)

If the Watchtower Society closed its doors tomorrow, first we?d all have a great party. The next day, we?d all get to work helping those whose lives had been shattered, start the recovery process. Hell, it wouldn?t be the end of sites like this; it would practically be a whole new beginning. Sites like this would pop-up all over the place. Sadly, I don?t see the Watchtower Society "ceasing to exist".

How Long did it take you to re-build?

just wondering how long it took/ is taking many of you to rebuild your lives and say goodbye to phobias, etc.?.

for those who grew up in the borg and don't have a point of reference to go back to....what have you done to create a new life free from that anguish to your mind?

did a new religion help or therapy?

Just relax a little and learn to enjoy your newfound freedom. Remember that with freedom comes the responsibility of making good and wise decisions. And this too is a learning process that will take time. When you walked out of those Kingdom Hall doors, that was the first day of the rest of your life.

The more you learn about the Watchtower Society and what you?ve been trained by them, you?ll begin to stack that "learning" up against real life situations and after a while you?ll start to notice a pattern. You?ve been given a bad or poorly working ?map?. Now its time to make your own map and custom tailor it for yourself.

Don?t deny feelings of frustration, guilt and even fear. Embrace them. Pull back the layers of what you?re feeling and try to discover the core of those feelings. You?ll discover (over a period of time) that those feelings are mostly groundless and of no use in your life and psyche.

No one (or group) can have control over an independent mind. Grow your mind.

Yes, I thought about pride for this thread too, but really, pride like all the other vices is just another tool, if you will. The root of evil is deeper than any of the vices. It?s the very heart of man and how it wants to be satisfied that is at the root of evil, I believe. Man discovers something that brings pleasure and whatever that may be, he wants more and more and more of it until he?s intoxicated with it. And then he wants even more of same. Whether it be lust or greed or pride or power or sex or wealth, etc., what drives all this is the hunger for more. Man?s appetite is insatiable. And if something gets in his way, he?ll destroy it to get more of what he wants.

All the ?sins? we can think of are not at the cause or root. It is not the things we do, it is who we are that produces evil.

(This is just my opinion of course.)

What exactly is evil? Ho do we define it? Some people feel that a tornado is evil. Sounds kinda silly until maybe you?ve lost a child in one. Yet a tornado has no consciousness to be good or evil. It?s just a thing, which causes destruction and lost lives.

If something is the cause or source of suffering, injury, or destruction, then natural disasters qualify for evil.

When it comes to man, then I?d have to say the heart of man is the root of evil (deliberate evil). Man?s core, down on the reptilian level, this is where the potential for pure evil exists. (Greed, lust, envy, religious elitism, the need for power, land, resources, fill in the blank.) When we see film clips of how the Nazi?s committed such inhumane acts towards the Jews (and anyone they deemed subhuman) we are appalled. We say to ourselves , "I could never do such a thing". But that is a lie. We have all the potential do every bit of evil as that of the Nazi?s, and worse. It?s innate in all of us.
